The Curriculum

Workforce Development Center Curriculum

Based on the responses received from the Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 surveys and ongoing discussions with industry partners, initially the Center plans to offer skills training in construction, health and medical, information technology and manufacturing. Programs are designed around a 2-year approach to allow for student flexibility.

The summaries outlined below reflect Ranken Technical College’s current curriculum and may be adapted for the Ashland workforce development center based on the training needs identified by our central Missouri industry partners.

Give To The Campaign

Carpentry & Building Construction Technology

Programs being considered are: Carpentry, Electrical Technology, HVAC and Plumbing Technology.

Throughout the Carpentry and Building Construction Technology program, students construct a residential structure from the ground up, in a series of phases. Students learn how to manipulate hand and power tools, as well as stationary machinery; select lumber and building materials; complete residential buildings in all stages: foundation, frame, roof, interior and exterior finishing; read and interpret residential blueprints, shop drawings and building codes.

Information Technology

Application and Web Development, Coding, Networking, Security and Support Desk.

Ranken’s Application and Web Development Technology is designed to prepare the students for employment with companies that develop business applications and/or websites. The curriculum utilizes industry standard tools such as Visual Studio, Android Studio, Sql Server Management Studio, and Git. Students will develop and design websites that use the latest versions of HTML, CSS, C#, JavaScript and modern JavaScript libraries. Each semester consists of project-based curriculum developed around real-world scenarios that help to build a web portfolio for each student.

Industrial Engineering Technology

Pipefitting, Welding, Electronic Process Control, Pneumatics, Hydraulics and more.

The Industrial Engineering Technology program consists of five semesters. Students take coursework designed to prepare them with a variety of skills to maintain and repair factory equipment and other industrial machinery. There are ten instructional classes, each focusing on a different skill set, for example, piping, welding, electronic process control, pneumatics, hydraulics, and more. The classes alternate with eight-week internships, to provide real-world experience.

Health & Medical

Technicians

Certified Nursing Associate (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Health Records, Telehealth, and more.

With a variety of hospitals, medical offices, retirement communities and nursing homes, the six central Missouri counties have an ongoing need for skilled employees.  The curriculum will provide training for certified nursing associates (CNA), licensed practical nurses (LPN), emergency medical technicians, pharmacy technicians, electronic medical records, health records, remote health monitoring, computerized provider order entry, and telehealth/telemedicine.

Together, let’s light the spark in these students and prepare them for rewarding careers in our communities.
